Introduction to this blog

Hi, and welcome to my Thief Blog. As you might have guessed by now, this blog is for fans of the video game Thief (The Dark Project, PC, 1998), and its sequels. Down below on the right side I have some external links you may enjoy. Even after the original Thief game came out roughly 10 years ago (since this post was made, 2008) the fan following has stayed strong and is still enjoyed to this day by many thief fans. The most notable activity in terms of modern thief players is enjoying thief fan missions; or simply put, "FMs." These FMs pave the way for re-playability. Since Thief 1(and its rereleased thief gold, as well as its successors, thief 2 and 3) many FMs have been built by loyal fans using (the now defunct) Looking Glass Studios' DromEd editor. In addition, a near commercial level quality pack of FMs called Thief 2X: Shadows of the Metal Age (released 2005)created a new character and story within the Thief 2 Dark Engine made by a group of dedicated thief fans since thief 2's release in 2000. Despite its shortcomings, DromEd has been a rather easy to learn editor (okay, maybe not, especially if you aren't technically minded but for some people it's not so hard) and has allowed thief fans to create new experiences for thief, Thief 2X being a huge example. To us thief fans, it will always have a place in our heart, no matter how old it becomes! Thanks for reading, and if you want to learn more about these games (I am assuming with this post that there could be people who never heard of thief or are not familiar with FMs or how popular it still is) please check out the external links.

I don't know if anyone has ever seen this before, but I found an interesting secret image in the editor.res file included with thief gold. See the above thread for more details.

Thief 2 Multiplayer Beta released

Thief 2 Multiplayer Beta Patch
A little late in my posting, but better late than never right? In a historic moment, the man that goes by the alias of Tos on the TTLG forums has posted a beta version of his multi-player patch he has been working on for about a year or more now. Thanks so much Tos! Note that it IS a beta, so don't get TOO excited.

The Master Builder - Connection between thief and the play?

Probably no connection, but it was interesting to me anyway, and I posted a thread. Link below.

Update: Mission X patch released!

October News 2008: Mission X version 1.13

Okay, as you can see I posted a link above. The patch for Mission X has come out Friday, Oct 3rd, 2008. Rather than trying to rehash what has already been said, please visit that link for all the information. Thanks to pavlovscat for all her hard work on The Circle's news database. :) The CoSaS team deserve great thanks for their dedication to this FM and all the work that was done for the patch. This version should be a bit easier for those that found it excruciatingly hard the first time around.

TTLG - Thief 10th Anniversary Contest!

10 year Anniversary Contest

A contest for thief is started by Brethren of the TTLG forums to create a mission in two months for thief's anniversary in November (November 30th is the one agreed on for the contest) of this year. If you like thief, and you have dromed experience, and would like to do it, then get crackin! :D This should be a cool contest....

Behind the Scenes video at Looking Glass "Technologies"

Below is the link to a youtube video regarding a German video report back in 1997 when thief was still considered an RPG and was simply called The Dark Project. (I never knew this, something new to learn.:) )

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TaugYown6GA

This video was made back before the release of thief (I'm guessing they just decided to change the name, as I've always known it as Looking Glass Studios). Thanks to jtr7 for sharing this from the TTLG forums discussion thread regarding old screenshots.

Mission X - a Thief II Fan Mission

Mission X (released August 15th, 2008) is the highly regarded sequel to Gathering at the Inn which came out many years ago. Mission X is about a thief named Dante (that's right, you are not Garrett) who works with a team of thieves under a group called "The Circle." Dante and some other agents from a elite group called the "Material Components" (MCs) headed by Sheam must infiltrate the Ivory Rose Casino and Gentlemen's Club and foil Lord Raputo's plan to purchase the Ivory Rose which would be detrimental to The Circle. The Circle is headed by Master Nightfall who has many connections within The City, and will be cut off from allies if Lord Raputo succeeds in purchasing the Ivory Rose.
------------------------
This is a fantastic mission and I recommend it. However, be warned that this mission is quite challenging, even for a veteran thief player! Despite some of it's shortcomings, the release was well polished (there is work on a patch at the moment) and received well by lots of taffers on the TTLG Forums. Some of it's features include: New AI, new textures, new objects, new music, new equipment, and more! If you haven't played Gati, I would suggest playing that one first, as it explains the story somewhat and is a good mission in its own right.

Visit the offical CoSaS Team's website here.
Here's the release thread as well at the TTLG Forums.

Taffer Art!

Hello taffers! There is a thread out there at the TTLG Forums called Taffer Art and it basically has.. well you guessed it, thief inspired artwork. Most of the stuff in here is top notch. I really like Platinumoxicity's character casting images on page 34. He did that with MS Paint! :o If you are an artist (and if you have an account, or would like to join) feel free to post in that thread if you like thief and have made thief related artwork.
